RIEng was a member of the consultant team tasked with the compilation of the national asset register of the Department Water Affairs. For this we used an internet based GIS database model and field verification. We were responsible for evaluating all the irrigation related infrastucture like canals, weirs etc across South Africa. (2007-2009).

Members of RIEng made inputs to some of the consultative workshops and had a number of discussions with individual team members, during the development of the National Water Act. (1995-1998) A member of RIEng was involved in the management of Irrigation Water Boards in the former Transvaal region, specifically on technical and legal aspects .

Members of RIEng also served on a number of steering committees in DWAF's programme for the water catchment area studies (Olifants- , Limpopo-, and other rivers) and on several Water Research Commission (WRC) research projects.
